Cystoscopy
- Cystoscopy is a test that allows the doctor to look inside the bladder and the urethra using a thin, instrument transmitting light into urethra and bladder. The cystoscope is inserted into the urethra and advanced into the bladder while the doctor looks through the cystoscope.
- The doctor can remove samples of tissue i,e biopsy by advancing small surgical instruments through the cystoscope.
- Cystoscopy is useful to diagnose interstitial cystitis, bladder ulcer, tumour, diverticulum, stone and vesico-vaginal fistula.
- Cystoscopy is done during incontinence surgery i.e. tension free vaginal tape TVT, Monarc, Spark, Safyre, Burch colposuspension, and during prolapse and hysterectomy surgery to confirm bladder and ureters are not injured.

- Indigo carmine is a blue dye used to check that both right and left ureters draining kidneys to the urinary bladder are intact and functional during and after urinary incontinence, sling, prolapse and hysterectomy surgery.
